INTRODUCTION:
The Roopkund trek is a must-do if you’re trekking in India! Everything works in its favour. As you journey from 8,000 feet to 16,000 feet in six days, you will find deep virgin woods, bubbling brooks, breathtaking campsites, miles of undulating meadows, snow and ice, and the aroma of an exciting adventure.
Roopkund, undoubtedly one of the most famous treks in India, is just perfect. The Ali and Bedni Bugyal, possibly India’s most gorgeous high altitude meadows, aresuddenly opened up by the Roopkund trrek route as soon as it ascends out of beautiful dense forests. After the trail leaves the plains, it enters some fantastic alpine areas.
Getting to the Roopkund lake by climbing up snow is an good and relaxing sensation. As you go higher the beautiful and amazing Mt. Trishul looms over the landscape, drawing closer until, at a ridge above Roopkund, only air stands between the trekker and Trishul.
Best time for trekking:
Between August and mid-October and May and June, hikers can access Roopkund. The first week of May to around the first week of July is the only window of chance that trekkers have due to the challenging climatic conditions. The twin Bugyals of Ali and Bedni are best seen in June because by then the meadows are in full spring bloom. Another perfect trekking season in Roopkund is from the last week of August to the first week of October. The weathervery good for trekking and the sky is still clear.
Location of Roopkund trek:
Roopkund is located in a rural part of the Chamoli District in the state of Uttarakhand. Roopkund is a distant location with no close habitations. It is surrounded by glaciers and is close to the foothills of the two Himalayan peaks Trishul and Nanda Gunti. Despite growing in popularity, the region is closed for six months out of the year due to its high altitude and persistent snowfall.
Itinerary of the trek:
DAY-1 : from Haridwar to Rishikesh
Today you will be travelling from Haridwar to Rishikesh where you will be staying at the hostel and spend the rest of the day doing the things that you like.
DAY-2: from Rishikesh to Karanprayag and then to Wan
To get to Wan today, we’ll be travelling along the Ganges River. Visit the well-known religious sites along the way. To get to Wan by sunset, keep driving through Rudraprayag and Karanprayag. Dinner and an overnight stay in a hotel or tent.
DAY-3: from Wan to Bedni Bugyal
After breakfast, we’ll go to the picturesque Wan settlements in order to get to the Rankiyadhar ridge. The trail descends to the Neelganga River from here. To get to Gairoli Patal, we will cross the river and then proceed through a tangle of oak and rhododendron forests. The path still climbs to the Dolia Dhar ridge, which is identified by a temple. The route then continues in the direction of Bedni’s meadows. Tent camping at night.
DAY-4: Bedni bugyal to Bagubassa
We will trek today from Bedni to Bagubassa through Patar Nachaniya after breakfast. Tent camping at night and staying here would be a lot of fun and this will be one of the most memorable camping stays for you.
DAY-5: from bagubassa to roopkund:
We will hike from Bagubassa to Roopkund after breakfast. Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, and Badrinath peaks are all spectacularly visible from the trail as it winds through alpine grazing plains. Later, as we approach Roopkund Lake, the route steepens. We’ll return to Bedni Bugyal after exploring the area and taking photos. Tent camping for the night.
DAY-6: From Bedni bugyal to Wan:
We will hike from Bedni to Wan this morning. The downhill route provides a great opportunity to appreciate the forest walk. We shall travel in the direction of Rudraprayag once we arrive at the roadhead. Hotel stay for the night.
DAY-7: From Rudraprayag to Haridwar:
Today will be the l;st day when you will be driving back from Rudraprayag from where you can go to your desired location as Haridwar is connected to most of the states.
