A Complete Guide to Alang Madan Kulang Trek


The Kalsubai range of Sahyadris is where the trek to Alang Madan Kulang is located in Maharashtra. This trek is difficult due to the rocky terrain, dense forests, boulders, and caves. You can see beautiful plateaus and forts from the top, as well as some peaks such as Vishramgad and Vikatgad.

This trek is meant for group trekkers and is not suitable for solo travelers. This trek is packed with excitement. The trek begins from several base villages, including Ambewadi Kurungwadi and Ghatghar. You can see wildlife in the forest, as well as a wide variety of flora & fauna. Ghatghar to Kurungwadi is the best route for their trekking.

The Alang Madan Kulang Trek has located 62 km from Nashik, 140 km from Mumbai, and 184 km from Pune. This trek does not require permission. Most treks in Maharashtra don’t require permission to camp at the summit or trek.

There are some villages where you can get food. There are no restaurants at the Alang Madan Kulang base. You will not be able to find water sources on the trail, so bring your water (minimum of 3-4 liters).

Day 1

The trek starts at Ghatghar and ends at Alangad on the second day. It takes approximately 4.5 hours to complete the trek, which covers approximately 6.5 to 7 km. This is where you will see a large, green field. You can see the Alang Fort from here. Walk straight to find three U-shaped forts. These forts are breathtaking in their beauty.

A stream will be visible a few minutes later. After crossing the stream, the trekking route starts gradually climbing into the forest. You will reach the west side of Alang hill by walking for 2 km. It will be a spectacular view from the top. The amazing Alang top can be seen from here. Continue walking for another kilometer to reach the Alang fort. From is where you can see amazing plateaus that are between 2 and 2.5 kilometers in length. Caves can be found north of the Alang Fort.

Details of Day 1

After getting up and having breakfast, you will head towards Alangad to Mandangad. It takes approximately 4.5 hours to complete the 2.5-kilometer journey. This is where the trek’s main descent begins. Mankind, or the lowest point, is where you need to descend. You will need to climb up and down several vertical walls before you can get there.

Will need to use a rope to cross the steep sections on the northern side. You will need to traverse another section of 40 feet and 25-foot vertical walls. These two sections are difficult and take a lot of time. These two sections take approximately 15 to 17 minutes for each trekker. It will take a lot of time if you are traveling with a group. It is only a 700m walk to reach the Madankhind. The Mandangad can be seen on the right.

Then you’ll head towards Madan Fort. You will first need to cross a difficult section using a fixed rope. Next, you’ll trek through some rocky terrain. With the aid of ropes, you’ll climb a 45-foot vertical rock wall. You will then need to continue on a rocky path until you reach the Madan fort. Here you can see the Kulang fort. This cave can hold 50 people at once.

Day 2

Start the day by getting up and having breakfast. Then, head towards Mandangad-Kulanggad. On this day, you’ll start your trek with a 45-foot vertical rock wall. You will then need to continue trekking for another kilometer on a trail that is covered in green bushes. Continue walking for a few meters after reaching the Kulang Fort and the col of Madan.

You will then need to climb 150m. You will soon be able to see the cave after a few hours. It will be great for you if you bring your tent or camp. The 360-degree view from the summit will be breathtaking. Make sure to take pictures. The entire trekking route can be seen from the east. It is breathtaking. You can visit the cave and fort. You can take a break here and then go down to the base Kurundwadi.

On this day, you will descend towards Kurundwadi. It takes approximately 5 km and takes about 4 hours. You will first need to cross the ridge. You will need to cross this section again. It will take 2.5-3 hours to reach a village nearby. Kurundwad is reached via a flat 3 km walk. This is the end of the trek.
